Edge Network Requirements

🚧

Please read this carefully to prevent damage to the system

  • Do not attach any devices to the Edge other than the power supply and Ethernet cable.
  • Do not open the Edge.
  • Do not power off the device by unplugging the power supply. Use the power-off button and wait 1–2 minutes for the shutdown to complete. The device is fully powered off when the LED turns off.
  • If an upload fails or the internet connection is lost for an extended period, the Edge may cease operation.

The Edge requires a persistent internet connection for the following purposes:

  • Updating the localization configuration for the environment
  • Sending information for billing purposes
  • Updating the software (Docker container) running on the Edge
  • Supporting remote debugging

To achieve this, the Edge connects to the following IPs and ports. Contact your system administrator to ensure the Edge can reach the following services:

  • edge-upstream.loconiq.systems / 35.240.5.219 / Port 443 (HTTPS)
  • 35.210.119.183 / Port 1194 (VPN / UDP)
  • Google Cloud Operations for observability of the Edge's metrics and status. Google manages this service in eu-west-1, so IP addresses are dynamic.
  • Google Artifact Registry (registry for the Docker containers used to update the Edge). Google manages this service in eu-west-1, so IP addresses are dynamic. The port is 443 (HTTPS).
  • Ubuntu mirrors for system updates
  • api.loconiq.com / 35.240.5.219 / Port 443 (HTTPS) — used by the app

Software running on the Edge

  • Ubuntu 22.04
  • MicroK8s (production-ready Kubernetes orchestrator)
  • OpenVPN
  • LoconIQ software running within a Docker container in MicroK8s
